Italian-Polish-American Unity Organization (IPAU) was established in 1993-1994 to promote Italian and Polish business development project, as well as cultural and political activities for these two ethnic communities. Since its inception, IPAU membership has grown to more than 8,000 Italians and Poles in the State of Illinois and has established chapters in 5 cities throughout the United States.
As part of IPAU’s advocacy on behalf of its members and the greater immigrant community at large, the organization has launched a political action campaign to promote the permanent extension of Section 245(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. On October 21st, 1997 more than 200 IPAU members participated in a lobbing mission to Washington where they met with key Congressional representatives. Further as part of its ongoing commitment to the community and in response to member concerns, IPAU has developed a Legal Assistance program that deals with consumer protection and job discrimination issues.
IPAU serves as a vital community resource for information and news publishing a quarterly multilingual newsletter, “Gazeta Unita” as well as periodic publications covering a wide range of topics of interest to members and hosting programs throughout the year. Its weekly radio program, broadcast every Sunday on Radio Unita (WSBC Chicago, 1240AM), is unique multilingual program that has a listening audience of more than 30,000. The program, which reaches listeners in Chicago, Waukegan, Rockford, Aurora, Orland Park, Northern Indiana and parts of Michigan State, includes conversations with successful business people, politicians, and those with expertise in areas interest to listeners.
The primary goal of this website is to further IPAU’s outreach to communities around the country and its affiliate chapters.
